Official 6v6 Indoor Volleyball Rules and 4v4 Grass Volleyball Rules

Overview

Each team consists of no more than 6 players on the court at one time for indoor co-ed (maximum of 4 men). Each team can consist of no more than 4 players (max of 3 men) in grass co-ed. All games will play using All-Rally Scoring Rules. There are no side-outs and the first 2 games will be played to 25 points, win by 2 or first to 27. The 3rd game will be played to a minimum of 15 points and will be determined prior to game 3 at the referee’s discretion based on time remaining. 3rd games played to 15 have a max of 17 points, games played to 21 max of 23 points, games played to 25 max of 27 points.

Game Time

Warm-ups used in that hour could shorten the 3rd game of the match. Games will begin within the first 7 minutes of each time slot. If any team is not ready at the 10 minute mark, the first game will be forfeited. At 15 minutes, all games will be forfeited.

Beginning of the Game

Each game will start with a single rock, paper, scissors match between captains. The winning captain will have one of two options, choose to serve first or choose which side they prefer to play on, (not both). Each match will consist of three games. Each game will count in the overall standings as a potential tie-breaker.

Full Team

INDOOR

A full team consists of 6 players with a maximum of 4 men on the court (for indoor). A team can play with a minimum of 4 players (minimum of 1 female to count). If a team does not meet the minimum requirements, the first game will be forfeited 7 minutes after start time. The entire Match will be forfeited at 15 minutes after start time.

GRASS/BEACH

A team consists of 4 players with a minimum of 1 female on the court for grass.

Roster

You may not play unless officially added to the roster. To add someone to the roster you must contact the DynamicSSC office 24 hours prior to game time. EXCEPTION: A team may add up to 2 subs who play for other Dynamic Volleyball teams to complete a team of 6 (or 4) on game day. If you have 6 players (or 4 for grass/beach), you may not add subs (the rule is in place to help teams reach minimum capacity, not add ringers). Non-rostered players will not be allowed during playoffs under any circumstances. No outside players, period.

Nets/Walls/Ceilings/Backboard

3 inches above women’s height nets will be used for Co-ed Play. If the ball hits the roof or anything hanging from the roof it is still in play if it stays on the same side. A ball hitting the roof and going over the net is side-out. If the ball makes contact with the wall after a 1st or 2nd defensive hit and the referee deems it playable, it will be a “do-over.” A ball crossing over the net and hitting the backboard is an automatic side-out. A ball hitting the backboard or any part of the basketball apparatus that the referee deems playable while playing defense, will be considered a “do-over.” A ball hitting the backboard or wall on a line drive after hitting a player on defense will result in a side-out and a point for the other team, per referee discretion. NO points can be won by the defensive team after a defensive hit that makes contact with the backboard or wall (ceiling is ok as long as it stays on the defensive team’s side). It is either a do-over or the other team’s point.

Referees and Line Judges

All games will have 1 official DynamicSSC referee and 2 line-judges provided by other teams, per the schedule. A schedule will be posted at least two weeks in advance except for week 1. If a team fails to provide referees during the time slot required, they will vacate the results of their most recent win or they will ref the whole night the next time they are on the schedule. If a team has 2 no shows for refereeing, they will not be allowed to participate in the playoffs and could be removed from the regular season schedule.

To coordinate and run the league, our refs and/or staff will be available to help the league run as smoothly as possible. If you have questions regarding schedules, policies, rule interpretations, etc. please ask during a break in play and not while they are refereeing.

NO REFS OR LINE JUDGES ARE PROVIDED IN GRASS OR BEACH

Rotations

A team may choose which position to rotate players out of the game before the game begins (if they have substitutes present), however, it must remain consistent. Exceptions:

Rotations are not required in grass or beach, but the server must rotate and all subs must come in and serve through the rotation.

Sportsmanship

The idea of DynamicSSC is to have fun. We hope that all participants keep that in mind when becoming involved. Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship. With this said, any behavior deemed unacceptable by staff may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game or the league. Abuse of staff will not be tolerated. DynamicSSC reserves the right to remove a player from a game or a league if they are considered to be bringing down the quality of the league. DynamicSSC will not tolerate fighting! Fighting will be an automatic ejection and removal from DynamicSSC without a refund.

Playoffs

Playoffs will be held for qualifying teams. The tie-breakers for volleyball in order are:

  1. Head to head matchup
  2. Point differential (matches, not games)
